Of course someone would come up with a graph comparing the cost of the Olympics and the Mars Rover! I was just thinking that certainly this money could have been more prudently spent, but what do I know?
I was more enamored with NASA and the Olympics as a gradeschooler, but I care very little for either these days.
Lastly, for the record, I place much stock in “science,” as if it can be simmered down to a monolithic term. I guess I’m just unintentionally a part of a small(ish) contingent that thinks maybe, just maybe, funds can be allocated toward better causes, particularly when the U.S. is experiencing major drought and more families than ever are on government assistance, to name a couple things. These are just “First World” problems, which says nothing of all the types of assistance and spending that are needed all over the world.
